As part of our new normal, most likely we’ve all been getting a bit more crafty, creative or mastering the art of cooking. If you tried any of our activities from last week’s blog, you will have learnt that it’s easier than you think to make something of both use and value out of items that you otherwise would have sent to recycling or landfill.

Well, it might surprise you to know that without too much effort at all, you can also make your own homemade remedies for your beauty and wellbeing rituals.  Here, we share with you some of our top recipes for you to try at home!

CBD Anti-Ageing Cream

CBD is definitely still a hot ingredient, but that doesn’t mean you should have to pay through the teeth for CBD-infused beauty products! Here we show you how to make your very own anti-ageing cream with just 4 ingredients (inspired by Compass Cannabis’s recipe here. If you want to get more into making your own skincare, we also highly recommend Make Your Own Skincare Products by Sally Hornsey).

Ingredients

200g JASON Coconut Oil

15ml Kanabia CBD Oil

60ml Organic Traditions Olive Oil

55g Organic Traditions Cacao Butter

Essential oils - optional. Frankincense and rose are a good combination for anti-ageing. You want to use no more than 30 drops total for the quantity of cream being made in this recipe.

Method

Bring a saucepan of water to the boil, then take off the heat and place a bowl over the pan, ensuring the bottom of the bowl is above the water’s surface. Place all ingredients in the bowl except the essential oils and mix well. Remove the bowl from the heat source and mix in the essential oils, if using. Allow to cool and partially solidify, then whisk/blend everything together to create a “whipped” consistency. “Pour” into your jar and allow it to settle before putting the lid on. Store at room temperature, avoiding direct sunlight or anywhere it may be exposed to heat.

How to Use

Apply morning and night after cleansing. Use any excess on your hands and dry spots on your body.

TIP - if this is your first time making a beauty product like this, try halving or even quartering the ingredients till you have honed in your production skills.

OM Beauty Mushroom & Coffee Grounds Mask

Let your mushrooms beautify you from the outside as well as the inside! Choose your mushroom: Chagato fight free radicals, Reishi to deeply hydrate and decrease signs of premature ageing such as fine lines and redness, or Cordycepsfor anti-inflammatory benefits (great for redness, acne and breakouts).

Coffee helps boost circulation and the caffeic acid it contains may help boost collagen and reduce premature ageing of cells, whilst other antioxidants, stimulants and chlorogenic acids may be effective at treating acne. The coffee grounds also do not dissolve, and make for a great exfoliation at the end of your mask!

Ingredients

1 tsp OM Mushroom Powder - Chaga, Reishi or Cordyceps, or a combination of these!

1 tsp coffee grounds

Water

Method

Super simple- place your mushroom powder and coffee grounds in a small bowl and mix well. Then add water bit by bit until you have a paste-like consistency.

How to Use

Apply to cleansed skin, leave for 10 minutes and then gently exfoliate using your fingertips and a little bit of warm water before rinsing thoroughly. Use 2-3 times weekly for optimum results.

Organic Traditions Cacao & Acai Brown Sugar Scrub

Give your skin a scrub that will boost its health and vitality, with antioxidant-rich cacao and acai, and sugar to gently but effectively exfoliate.

Ingredients

200g brown sugar, preferably turbinado sugar

50g cup JASON Coconut Oil

1tbsp Organic Traditions Raw Cacao Powder

1tbsp Organic Traditions Acai Powder

Optional - Essential oil(s) of choice - 10 drops; try rose for anti-inflammatory properties and rehydration, grapefruit for lymphatic support, or peppermint for a delicious and invigorating mint-choc hit!

Method

Bring a saucepan of water to the boil, then take off the heat and place a bowl over the pan, ensuring the bottom of the bowl is above the water’s surface. Add coconut oil to the bowl so that the heat begins to melt it. Once loosened, remove from heat and add the sugar, cacao and acai powder and mix well. Lastly, add essential oils if using.
